Greg’s Bespoke Golf Simulator Room
The Brief
Greg has been playing golf for 60 years, has been a member of several clubs, and at his best got his handicap down to one. Now retired, and having lived at his Essex home for 25 years, he wanted two things from a garden building: a space for serious swing analysis and improvement, and the ability to play almost any golf course in the world.
The idea had been there for a while. The moment it became real was in August 2025, when Greg realised he just about had enough room in his garden to make it happen. There was never any question of another use - this was always going to be a golf room.
Designed Around The Technology
A golf simulator isn’t like an office or a gym. It needs enough width for a full, unrestricted swing, the right depth between the hitting position and the screen, and enough height to swing a driver with confidence. That’s why Greg’s room is fully bespoke: a 6m x 4m building planned around his equipment rather than the other way round.
Inside, the set-up combines GSPro simulator software with a ProTee VX launch monitor, giving Greg:
A choice of more than 2,500 golf courses from around the world
A range of practice facilities for working on specific parts of his game
Detailed swing and ball-flight analysis to track his improvement
Unsurprisingly, the simulator set-up was the trickiest part of the whole project - which is exactly why designing the room around it from day one mattered. Find out more about our bespoke garden rooms.
A Room That Looks The Part
For Greg, the room had to perform - but it also had to feel right. Its style and finish have become his favourite feature, giving the space a polished, professional feel that matches the quality of the technology inside.
“The style and finish of the garden room is a stand-out feature.”
From First Plans To First Swing
Getting a specialist room right takes careful planning, and Greg’s project was carefully paced from start to finish:
Seven weeks of planning to finalise the design
Five weeks for pricing and lead-in
Ten days to install the garden room itself
Four weeks to fit out the simulator and finish the interior
The garden building represented an investment of £43,000 - for a dedicated golf room he can use in every season.
Indoors And Out: Golf In Every Season
The simulator room sits alongside an outdoor putting green, and the two have been designed to work as one. On cold, wet days the simulator comes into its own; when the weather is right, Greg can take his short game outside.
“They integrate well together and complement each other. The golf simulator room is ideal for winter weather, and the putting green is very useful during the summer months.”
The Result
The room has only recently been completed, so Greg describes it as early days - but it’s already earning its place. The swing analysis is proving genuinely useful, and he plans to practise regularly through the winter season and invite friends over to play when the weather turns.
“It’s proving quite useful for swing analysis, which should hopefully improve my game. Too early for any notable experiences yet - but many to come, hopefully!”
His advice to any other golf fan thinking of doing the same? It’s been very useful and very enjoyable - and he has no regrets.
